Non IV Ozone Therapy in NYC

Reviewed by Mark Moshchinsky, L.Ac. | Updated August 2026
BOOK APPOINTMENTS
Ozone Therapy in NYC at Tree of Life Acupuncture’s Union Square clinic is provided by Mark Moshchinsky, L.Ac., a New York State–licensed acupuncturist with over 33 years of clinical experience in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Our Manhattan clinic offers personalized rectal (colon), vaginal, ear, and nasal ozone applications, along with ozone sauna, as part of an integrative supportive-care approach.

How Oxidative Ozone Therapy Works

Ozone insufflation introduces a carefully measured oxygen-ozone mixture through the selected application method. The concentration is measured in gamma and adjusted according to the patient’s health history, sensitivity, constitution, and response.

Many of our New York and out-of-state patients incorporate ozone therapy as part of a broader integrative plan that may include other holistic therapies to facilitate recovery.

Ozone therapy is offered as complementary wellness support for patients seeking a gentle approach focused on circulation, oxygen utilization, digestive wellness, energy, and general recovery.

Our Targeted Ozone Insufflation Methods

We use controlled, non-invasive insufflation methods that deliver a measured oxygen-ozone mixture without intravenous access. Each session is adjusted according to the patient’s health history, constitution, sensitivity, and treatment goals.

Rectal Insufflation: A carefully measured oxygen-ozone mixture is introduced rectally. Patients commonly choose this method as complementary support for digestive wellness, circulation, energy, and general recovery.

Vaginal Insufflation: A gentle, localized application designed to support vaginal and pelvic wellness. Treatment is adjusted for comfort and sensitivity.

Ear and Nasal Applications: Controlled local applications used by patients seeking complementary support for ear, sinus, and upper-respiratory wellness. Ozone gas is not inhaled.

Ozone Sauna: A whole-body application combining controlled ozone exposure with warmth and perspiration while the patient’s head remains outside the chamber.

Ozone Therapy as Complementary Support

Ozone therapy is an oxidative complementary wellness modality. In our clinic, it may be incorporated into individualized care plans intended to support circulation, recovery, and overall well-being.
Some patients explore ozone therapy as complementary support while managing:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Immune stress
  • Digestive concerns
  • Recovery from complex health conditions
  • Lyme disease
  • Cancer treatment and recovery
  • Recurrent HSV-1 or HSV-2 symptoms and outbreaks

Ozone therapy is not presented as a treatment or cure for Lyme disease, cancer, herpes, or any other medical condition. It does not replace antiviral medication, medical diagnosis, or conventional treatment.

Established antiviral medications remain the evidence-based treatment for controlling herpes symptoms and outbreaks.
Patients receiving medical care for Lyme disease, cancer, herpes, or other complex conditions should continue working with their established healthcare team and should not discontinue prescribed treatment.

Please visit our condition-specific pages for more information about Lyme disease support, holistic cancer support, herpes and HSV-1/HSV-2, mold exposure, Epstein-Barr virus, and shingles.

Individualized Ozone Therapy Protocols

In more than 30 years of clinical practice, I have learned that treatment intensity should be individualized.
I adjust the ozone concentration according to the patient’s health history, constitution, sensitivity, and response.

After Your Ozone Session

Drink adequate water after your appointment and follow recommendations provided during your visit.
Nutrition and supplement recommendations are made only when appropriate for your health history and treatment plan.

Scientific Research on Ozone Therapy

  •  Medical Ozone: Mechanisms, Biological Effects and Clinical Evidence—A Narrative Review — A 2026 review of the biological mechanisms, clinical applications, and current evidence for medical ozone therapy.
  • Effectiveness and Safety of Ozone Therapy in Humans — A 2026 umbrella review examining the effectiveness and safety of ozone therapy across systematic reviews and randomized clinical trials.
  • Recommendations for the Optimal Application of Oxygen-Ozone Therapy — Clinical recommendations emphasizing standardized ozone protocols, appropriate practitioner training, and patient safety.

Ozone Therapy Patient Safety, G6PD Screening, and Contraindications

Ozone insufflation is generally well tolerated when appropriately administered. Before treatment, I review each patient’s relevant health history, medications, sensitivity, and potential contraindications.

Every protocol is adjusted according to the application method, constitution, comfort level, and response. Ozone therapy is provided as complementary supportive care and does not replace medical diagnosis or conventional treatment.
Key Contraindications: To maintain clinical integrity, we do not administer ozone therapy for the following:

  • G6PD (Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase) Deficiency: A non-negotiable safety exclusion.

  • Uncontrolled Hyperthyroidism: Treatment is not provided until the condition is medically stabilized.

  • Recent Heart Attack or Stroke: Treatment is deferred until adequate recovery and appropriate medical clearance.
  • Active Bleeding: Contraindicated during acute hemorrhage.

  • Pregnancy: Ozone therapy is not administered during pregnancy.

FAQ About Ozone Therapy

Are Ozone Insufflations well-tolerated?
Yes. Before treatment, I review your health history, medications, G6PD status, thyroid conditions, cardiovascular history, bleeding risk, pregnancy status, and previous reactions to oxidative therapies.

Treatments begin conservatively, using lower ozone concentrations when appropriate, and are adjusted according to the patient’s comfort, sensitivity, and response.

Is ozone insufflation uncomfortable?
Most patients find the applications gentle and well tolerated. Sensations vary depending on the method and personal sensitivity.

Are there side effects?
Some patients may experience temporary bloating, abdominal discomfort, headache, fatigue, or dizziness. Please inform the practitioner promptly if you experience an unexpected, persistent, or concerning reaction.
